The SQ2 Alpine Gaiter incorporates the patent pending Contrail™ Bootstrap. Fully replaceable and constructed of high-strength Dyneema® rope, the Contrail™ Bootstrap is unlike anything else on the market. With a pin-less buckle, 3-Layer Ripstop Hydrashield™ upper, a durable X-Pac™ lower and a unique calf adjustment system for a perfect fit, this gaiter is sure to be the last you will ever need to buy.
The patent pending Contrail™ Bootstrap system incorporates ultra high strength Dyneema® rope, a pinless heavy-duty aluminum buckle and a unique nylon webbing adjustment design. The Dyneema® rope has a breaking strength of 1,600 pounds, is extremely cut-resistant and has the wear resistance of steel. This combination yields unprecedented durability in a fully replaceable bootstrap that will likely never need replacing.
Using a “V” webbing attachment on the instep of the gaiter, the tension of the bootstrap is spread wider on the gaiter and moves the bar tacks from the high wear center area of the instep. This increases both attachment strength and wear resistance.
The SQ2 Gaiter has a Velcro® adjustment design that allows the gaiter to be sized to the exact circumference of the calf. This creates a tight fit that can be adjusted with the number of layers worn. The nylon webbing strap at the top of the gaiter utilizes and integrated elastic portion which provides constant tension and a proper seal throughout your range of motion, keeping snow and debris out of the gaiter. Add a waterproof breathable upper and double layer X-Pac™ waterproof lower and you have durable weatherproof protection.
Fully replaceable and constructed of high-strength Dyneema® braided rope, the Contrail™ Bootstrap performs unlike anything else on the market.
Dyneema® is 15x stronger than steel at the same weight, with a tensile strength up to 43 cN/dtex. As well as its extraordinary strength, Dyneema® excels in cut and abrasion resistance and has a high resistance to chemicals and UV. Dyneema® is so light that it floats on water and furthermore has a very high modulus (resistance against deformation).
Proven in the mountains, HydraShield™ technology excels in the most unfavorable weather conditions. Waterproof, windproof and breathable, HydraShield™ textiles are profoundly durable while also remaining lightweight and packable.
HydraShield™ technology prevents rain and snow from passing through to your body while transporting water vapors from sweat to the exterior of the textile during high exertion activities. This transfusion process ensures you stay warm and dry in all wet weather conditions.
Our proprietary line of waterproof breathable textiles, HydraShield™, launched last year with a 3-Layer textile designed for the ultimate in durability and packability. This year we have expanded the HydraShield™ line to include HydraShield™ SS, a waterproof breathable soft-shell, and HydraShield™ RS, a rip-stop version for increased durability in high wear pieces, such as our all new SQ2 Alpine Gaiter.
The lower of the SQ2 Alpine Gaiter is constructed from durable X-Pac™ material that can stand up to harsh abrasion while also providing waterproof protection.

Great product that works well
I have worn these gaiters on one mule deer hunt so far while walking through all kinds of brush, weeds and various other plants in both dry and wet conditions with great results every time. I also wear them on my training hikes. This product just works and does exactly what it is advertised to do. I especially appreciate the fact that while on my mule deer hunt, I never had even one wildflower or other seed or plant part fall into my boots. They are somewhat stiff which help keeps them from sliding down. Be aware that the velcro is loud if you decide to adjust it while stalking or sitting and I put them on the wrong feet a couple times (don’t laugh it’s easy to do) which only means that the bottom strap buckle is now on the inside of your legs instead of being on the outside. They are well worth the investment and I am looking forward to wearing them on my October elk hunt in Colorado.
Overall I thought these were a great gaiter and built to last+-the only thing i dont like about them so far is I didnt like the oversized buckle on the bottom. Ive used a number of other gaiters over the years for everything from hunting lions in the deep snow to chasing sheep on the rough mountains and these have got to be the best built for rugged use.
I've put at least 70km on these gaiters through sand stone, mountain shale and plenty of alberta forest full of aspen and rose bushes. These have held up great the bottom strap has next to no wear on it. My uncle has broken two pairs of gaiters from other companies on that bottom boot strap so I'm very impressed with this one so far. The fit is also better than any other gaiters I've tried because of the added velcro. All together I think these are the best gaiters on the market and we'll worth the money. Buy once cry once
